WHL roundup: Hitmen top Provorov, Wheat Kings

EDMONTON — Colton Kehler scored the go-ahead goal on a power play midway through the third period and the Edmonton Oil Kings won their fifth straight, 2-1 over the Prince Albert Raiders in Western Hockey League action on Tuesday.

Brett Pollock opened the scoring with a power-play goal for Edmonton (13-14-3), 15:40 into the first period.

Reid Gardiner had the lone goal for the Raiders (18-9-3), also on a power play, 10:04 into the second.

Patrick Dea turned aside 26 shots for the win. Rylan Parenteau made 27 saves in the loss.

HITMEN 6, WHEAT KINGS 4

BRANDON, Man. — Jordy Stallard scored two goals and assisted on another as Calgary hammered the Wheat Kings.

Carsen Twarynski had a short-handed, empty-net goal in the final minute and added two assists for the Hitmen (19-11-2). Jakob Stukel and Radel Fazleev chipped in with a goal and as assist apiece, and Jake Bean had three helpers.

Ivan Provorov led Brandon (17-9-3) with a goal and two assists. John Quenneville, Macoy Erkamps and Tim McGauley rounded out the offence.

COUGARS 7, ICE 2

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Chase Witala scored three times, including two of his team’s four goals in the third period, as the Cougars downed Kootenay.

Brad Morrison scored twice for Prince George (18-9-2) while Sam Ruopp had a goal and an assist. Luke Harrison rounded out the barrage.

Noah Philp and Zak Zborsky scored for the Ice (6-24-2), who have lost eight straight.
