WHL Roundup: Jeannot scores twice, leads Moose Jaw over Calgary

CALGARY — Tanner Jeannot scored twice and added an assist as the Moose Jaw Warriors downed the Calgary Hitmen 5-3 on Friday in Western Hockey League action.

Jayden Halbgewachs, Dmitri Zaitsev and Vince Loschiavo also scored for the league-leading Warriors (33-6-3).

Riley Stotts had a pair of goals and Layne Toder also scored for the Hitmen (12-21-6).

Moose Jaw’s Adam Evanoff made 18 saves in 45:53 of ice time before Brody Wilms took over. He allowed three goals on just five shots.

Matthew Armitage combined with Nick Schneider for 37 saves for Calgary.

The Warriors went 1 for 5 on the power play while the Hitmen went 1 for 4.

RAIDERS 7 ICE 3

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Brayden Pachal and Regan Nagy both scored twice as the Raiders beat Kootenay to snap a five-game skid.

Parker Kelly, Jordy Stallard and Brett Leason also struck for Prince Albert (14-17-8) as Ian Scott made 21 saves for the win.

Colton Veloso had a pair of goals and Jonathan also scored for the Ice (18-20-3), who have lost four in a row. Bailey Brkin combined with Duncan McGovern for 23 saves in defeat.

BLADES 3 REBELS 2

SASKATOON — Kustra scored the winning goal at 10:35 of the third period as the Blades slipped past Red Deer for their sixth straight victory.

Braylon Shmyr and Bradly Goethals also had goals for Saskatoon (20-17-3), which got 22 saves from Nolan Maier.

Reese Johnson and Alex Morozoff responded for the Rebels (10-21-8), losers of their last six. Riley Lamb made 24 saves in a losing cause.

WHEAT KINGS 3 BRONCOS 2 (OT)

BRANDON, Man. — Ty Lewis scored at 3:32 of overtime as the Wheat Kings halted a four-game losing streak by edging Swift Current.

Baron Thompson and Evan Weinger also scored for Brandon (26-12-1). Logan Thompson stopped 24 shots for the win.

Matteo Gennaro supplied all the offence for the Broncos (27-10-3). Logan Flodell made 32 saves in defeat.

GIANTS 5 HURRICANES 2

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Tyler Benson scored twice and David Tendeck made 33 saves as Vancouver beat the Hurricanes.

Alex Kannok Leipert, Ty Ronning and Jared Dmytriw also found the back of the net for the Giants (22-14-5).

Jordy Bellerive and Giorgio Estephan scored for Lethbridge (17-18-3). Stuart Skinner turned away 21 shots in defeat.

TIGERS 5 OIL KINGS 1

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Max Gerlach had two goals and an assist as the Tigers defeated Edmonton.

Baxter Anderson, David Quenneville and Mark Rassell also scored for Medicine Hat (22-15-3). Michael Bullion made 19 saves for the win.

David Kope kept the Oil Kings (10-23-6) from being blanked. Josh Duchaine made 21 saves in a losing cause.

Edmonton’s Colton Kehler was given a match penalty and game misconduct for attempting to injure the opponent at 18:45 of the second period.

COUGARS 4 AMERICANS 3

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Jared Bethune had a hat trick, including the winner at 6:40 of the third, as the Cougars dowed Tri-City.

Josh Maser scored once and set up two more for Prince George (15-18-6). Tavin Grant made 34 saves in victory.

The Americans (20-12-5) got goals from Nolan Yaremko, Sasha Mutala and Riley Sawchuk. Patrick Dea kicked out 16 shots in defeat.

THUNDERBIRDS 6 ROCKETS 4

KELOWNA, B.C. — Donovan Neuls scored twice and Liam Hughes made 26 saves as Seattle ended the Rockets’ win streak at six games.

Nolan Volcan, Aaron Hyman, Dillon Hamaliuk and Austin Strand also scored for the Thunderbirds (19-14-5).

Leif Mattson, Gordie Ballhorn, Kyle Topping and Carsen Twarynski had goals for Kelowna (24-12-3). James Porter turned away 21-of-26 shots in defeat.

VICTORIA — Griffen Outhouse made 38 saves as the Royals blanked Everett.

Braydon Buziak, Jeff de Wit, Dante Hannoun, Matthew Phillips and Andrei Grishakov scored for Victoria (22-15-4).

Dustin Wolf stopped 22-of-26 shots for the Silvertips (23-15-2).

CHIEFS 9 WINTERHAWKS 3

SPOKANE, Wash. — Jaret Anderson-Dolan and Hudson Elynuik both scored twice as the Chiefs hammered Portland.

Zach Fischer, Ethan McIndoe, Tyson Helgesen, Jake McGrew and Luke Gallagher also scored for Spokane (21-15-3). Dawson Weatherill made 16 saves for the win.

Jake Gricius, Cody Glass and Skyler McKenzie replied for the Winterhawks (22-13-3). Cole Kehler turned aside 41 shots in defeat.
