WHL Roundup: Leafs prospect Brooks helps Pats double up Thunderbirds

REGINA — Dawson Leedhal scored once and set up two more as the Regina Pats doubled up the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds 6-3 on Sunday in Western Hockey League action.

Sam Steel, Lane Zablocki, Adam Brooks and Connor Hobbs had a goal and an assist apiece as the Pats (10-0-3) went their 13th game to start the season without a regulation-time loss. Austin Wagner rounded out the offence.

Tyler Brown made 26 saves for the win.

Ethan Bear led the Thunderbirds (4-6-1) with a goal and two helpers while Nolan Volcan and Sami Moilanen added the others.

Rylan Toth kicked out 22-of-26 shots in a losing cause.

Regina went 2 for 5 on the power play while Seattle scored three times on five chances with the man advantage.

ROCKETS 3 WINTERHAWKS 2

PORTLAND, Ore. — Brody Salmond made 42 saves and Kelowna scored three unanswered goals to beat the Winterhawks for its sixth straight win.

Rodney Southam, Nick Merkley and Tomas Soustal responded for the Rockets (9-7-0) after falling behind 2-0.

Joachim Blichfeld and Skyler McKenzie scored for Portland (8-8-0), which is on a five-game skid. Cole Kehler turned aside 42-of-45 shots in defeat.

ICE 6 WHEAT KINGS 2

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Matt Alfaro struck twice and Payton Lee made 35 saves as Kootenay handed Brandon its third straight loss.

Cale Fleury and Troy Murray each had a goal and two assists for the Ice (3-8-4) while Zak Zborosky and Max Patterson added the others.

Connor Gutenberg and Baron Thompson scored for the Wheat Kings (6-6-2), who got a 33-save outing from Jordan Papirny.
