WHL Roundup: Mattheos helps Wheat Kings extend win streak to five

BRANDON, Man. — Stelio Mattheos had two goals and an assist while Cole Reinhardt added a goal and two helpers as the Brandon Wheat Kings extended their win streak to five games by downing the Swift Current Broncos 7-3 on Sunday in Western Hockey League play.

Ty Lewis, Connor Gutenberg, Zach Wytinck and Evan Weinger also scored for the Wheat Kings (14-6-1), who trailed 3-2 in the second period before reeling off five unanswered goals.

Tyler Steenbergen scored his league-leading 31st goal in just 21 games for the Broncos (15-5-1). Glenn Gawdin and Conner Chaulk rounded out the offence.

Logan Thompson made 38 saves for Brandon as Logan Flodell stopped 29-of-36 shots for Swift Current.

The Wheat Kings went 3 for 5 on the power play while the Broncos were 2 for 6 with the man advantage.

Brandon’s Tanner Kaspick was given a game misconduct midway through the first for checking to the head.

EVERETT, Wash. — Carter Hart stopped 48-of-50 shots, but it wasn’t enough as his Silvertips fell to Regina.

Jake Leschyshyn scored the game-winning goal for the Pats (13-9-2) at 2:19 of the third period while Robbie Holmes added the other. Tyler Brown made 38 saves for the win.

Patrick Bajkov found the back of the net for Everett (10-12-2), which has dropped back-to-back games. Hart leads the WHL with a 1.84 goals-against average and .944 save percentage.
