WHL Roundup: Minulin’s overtime goal lifts Broncos over Rebels

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Artyom Minulin scored in overtime as the Swift Current Broncos edged the Red Deer Rebels 3-2 on Tuesday night in Western Hockey League action.

Tyler Steenbergen and Cole Johnson had goals in regulation time as Swift Current (11-6-5) snapped a three-game losing streak. Taz Burman made 23 saves for the win.

Josh Mahura and Michael Spacek replied for Red Deer (10-9-2). Mahura’s was a power-play goal and Spacek tied it 2-2 in the third period while the Rebels were shorthanded.

Lasse Petersen started in net for Red Deer, stopping 13-of-15 shots in 25 minutes of work. Riley Lamb turned aside 14-of-15 shots in relief.

The Broncos were 1 for 4 on the power play and the Rebels scored on their one man advantage.

TIGERS 5 ICE 2

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Matt Bradley struck twice, including the eventual winner, to lead Medicine Hat past Kootenay.

James Hamblin, Ty Schultz and Mark Rassell also scored as the Tigers (14-5-1) won their third in a row.

Zak Zborosky and Noah Philp responded for the Ice (3-12-5), who have lost five straight.

SILVERTIPS 6 HITMEN 1

EVERETT, Wash. — Dominic Zwerger had back-to-back power-play goals as the Silvertips’ special teams dominated Calgary.

Eetu Tuulola, Kevin Davis and Patrick Bajkov also scored with the man advantage for Everett (15-2-3). Sean Richards had the Silvertips’ only even-strength goal.

Matteo Gennaro supplied the offence for the Hitmen (7-7-2).

COUGARS 4 ROCKETS 2

KELOWNA, B.C. — Colby McAuley had a pair of goals, including the eventual winner, as Prince George downed the Rockets.

Yan Khomenko and Aaron Boyd also scored for the Cougars (16-4-2).

Tomas Soustal and Calvin Thurkauf both had power-play goals for Kelowna (11-10-0).

THUNDERBIRDS 5 CHIEFS 2

SPOKANE, Wash. — Ryan Gropp, Alexander True and Nolan Volcan all scored in the third period as Seattle rallied past the Chiefs.

Brandon Schuldhaus and Scott Eansor gave the Thunderbirds (9-8-1) a 2-0 lead by the 14:32 mark of the first period.

Kailer Yamamoto and Hudson Elynuik made it 2-2 for Spokane (7-7-5) before Seattle’s three unanswered goals.

ROYALS 3 RAIDERS 1

VICTORIA — Matthew Phillips put away the winner 2:21 into the third period as the Royals topped Prince Albert.

Tyler Soy scored and added two assists for Victoria (12-8-2). Jared Dmytriw added a power-play goal.

Loch Morrison was the lone scorer for the Raiders (5-14-1), who have dropped three straight.
