WHL Roundup: Royals snap Blazers’ winning streak

VICTORIA — Jack Walker and Alex Forsberg scored in the second period as the Royals snapped Kamloops’ four-game unbeaten streak.

Joe Hicketts opened the scoring and Dante Hannoun added another in the third for Victoria (39-16-6).

Matt Needham responded on the power play in the third for the Blazers (27-23-8).

PATS 7 ICE 5

REGINA – Connor Hobbs scored a hat trick and added an assist as the Regina Pats got past the Kootenay Ice 7-5 on Friday night in Western Hockey League action.

Adam Brooks had two goals and four assists for the Pats (27-23-7), who won their fourth in a row. Austin Wagner scored once and added two assists with Chase Harrison rounding out the attack.

Zak Aborosky had two goals and an assist for Kootenay (10-43-5). Shane Allan, Noah Philp and Tanner Lishchynsky supplied the rest of the offence.

Tyler Brown made 26 saves for the win as Declan Hobbs kicked out 31 shots in defeat.

Regina scored twice on three power-play attempts while the Ice were 2 for 6.

WARRIORS 4 RAIDERS 3 (OT)

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Noah Gregor scored 3:39 into overtime as Moose Jaw edged the Raiders.

Jesse Shynkaruk, Tanner Jeannot and Brayden Point had goals in regulation for the Warriors (30-21-8).

Tim Vanstone, Simon Stransky and Parker Kelly found the back of the net for Prince Albert (31-21-6).

BLADES 12 BRONCOS 6

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Connor Gay had two goals and three assists as Saskatoon routed the Broncos.

Ryan Graham had two goals and two assists, Mason McCarty had two goals and an assist and Josh Paterson also struck twice for the Blades (21-33-4). Colton Waltz scored once and added three assists with Cameron Hebig, Nick Zajac and Nikita Soshnin rounding out the attack.

Jamal Watson, Glenn Gawdin, Tyler Steenbergen, Lane Pederson, Jon Martin and Scott Feser supplied the offence for Swift Current (20-30-7).

WHEAT KINGS 8 OIL KINGS 3

BRANDON, Man. — Nolan Patrick and Tim McGauley both struck twice as the Wheat Kings downed Edmonton.

Ty Lewis, John Quenneville, Tyler Coulter and Duncan Campbell also scored for Brandon (37-17-4). Jayce Hawryluk, Ivan Provorov and Kale Clague all had three assists apiece.

Brett Pollock had two goals and an assist for the Oil Kings (24-27-7). Ben Carroll had the other.

WINTERHAWKS 4 HURRICANES 2

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Alex Schoenborn’s second goal of the game proved to be the winner as Portland doubled up the Hurricanes.

Rodrigo Abols also had a pair of goals and an assist for the Winterhawks (30-25-3).

Tyler Wong, on the power play, and Cory Millette found the back of the net for Lethbridge (40-18-1).

Portland’s Keegan Iverson received a game misconduct and major penalty for kneeing late in the first period.

TIGERS 3 HITMEN 2

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Chad Butcher’s short-handed goal in the third period was the winner as the Tigers beat Calgary to snap an eight-game skid.

Mason Shaw, on the power play, and Connor Clouston scored the others for Medicine Hat (21-33-4).

Jakob Stukel and Radel Fazleev chipped in for the Hitmen (33-22-3).

COUGARS 3 REBELS 1

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Jesse Gabrielle struck twice as the Cougars got past Reed Deer to snap a five-game skid.

Tate Olson had the winner for Prince George (32-22-4) in the third period.

Luke Philp scored for the Rebels (35-21-3), who dropped their fifth in a row.

ROCKETS 6 GIANTS 5

KELOWNA, B.C. — Rourke Chartier had a pair of goals as the Rockets slipped past Vancouver for their fourth straight win.

Tomas Soustal, Tyson Baillie, Cole Linaker and Joe Gatenby rounded out the attack for Kelowna (41-15-3).

Chase Lang scored a hat trick for the Giants (21-31-7). Trevor Cox had a goal and three assists, with Thomas Foster adding the other. Brennan Menell tacked on three helpers.

AMERICANS 2 SILVERTIPS 0

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Evan Sarthou stopped all 33 shots he faced as the Americans blanked Everett.

Mackenze Stewart and Parker Bowles, on the power play, scored for Tri-City (28-26-3), which won its third straight.

Carter Hart turned away 15 shots for the Silvertips (33-20-4).

THUNDERBIRDS 2 CHIEFS 1 (OT)

KENT, Wash. — Ethan Bear scored his second goal of the game 14 seconds into overtime as the Thunderbirds slipped past Spokane.

Mathew Barzal assisted on both of Bear’s goals for Seattle (32-22-3), which won its fourth in a row.

Markson Bechtold opened the scoring on a penalty shot in the second period for the Chiefs (27-22-8).
