WHL Roundup: Shaw’s three points lead Tigers past Blazers

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Mason Shaw had two goals and an assist Friday night as the Medicine Hat Tigers defeated the Kamloops Blazers 5-3 for their third straight win in Western Hockey League action.

David Quenneville scored once and added two helpers for the Tigers (24-10-1), with Mark Rassell and Chad Butcher also chipping in.

Dan Gatenby, Jackson Shepard and Rudolfs Balcers found the back of the net for Kamloops (20-13-2), which entered the game with a 6-0-1 record in its previous seven matchups.

Nick Schneider made 34 saves for the win as Dylan Ferguson stopped 47 shots in defeat.

Medicine Hat converted twice on seven power plays and the Blazers were 0 for 7.

WARRIORS 5 PATS 4

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Noah Gregor had two goals and an assist and Zach Sawchenko made 33 saves as the Warriors edged Regina.

Nikita Popugaev scored once and added two helpers for Moose Jaw (20-7-5). Brayden Burke and Tristin Langan also chipped in.

Luc Smith struck twice with Sam Steel and Dawson Leedahl adding the others in a four-goal first period for the Pats (21-3-6). Tyler Brown kicked out 24 shots.

BRONCOS 4 RAIDERS 1

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Aleksi Heponiemi scored the winner in the second period to lift the Broncos over Prince Albert.

Sahvan Khaira, Ryan Graham and Lane Pederson also scored for Swift Current (17-10-7). Travis Child made 20 saves.

Carson Miller had a power-play goal with Nicholas Sanders stopping 37-of-40 shots for the Raiders (7-25-2).

WHEAT KINGS 3 BLADES 2 (SO)

BRANDON, Man. — Reid Duke and Tyler Coulter scored in the shootout to help the Wheat Kings slip past Saskatoon and snap a six-game skid.

Duke forced extra time when he tied the game 2-2 late in the third period for Brandon (14-14-4). Linden McCorrister had the other and Logan Thompson made 29 saves.

Markson Bechtold and Lukus MacKenzie had goals in regulation for the Blades (13-18-4). Brock Hamm stopped 28 shots.

OIL KINGS 4 HURRICANES 3

EDMONTON — Anatolii Elizarov scored the winner and Patrick Dea made 20 saves as the Oil Kings handed Lethbridge its first regulation loss in 14 games.

Nicholas Bowman, on the power play, Ty Gerla and Davis Koch rounded out the attack for Edmonton (16-15-3).

Ryley Lindgren, with the man advantage, Ryan Bowen and Tyler Wong had goals for the Hurricanes (18-12-5), who entered the game on an 11-0-2 run. Stuart Skinner turned aside 27-of-31 shots.

ROCKETS 3 REBELS 0

RED DEER, Alta. — Brodan Salmond stopped all 34 shots he faced as Kelowna shut out the Rebels.

Erik Gardiner, shorthanded, Kole Lind and Nolan Foote, on the power play, scored for the Rockets (20-12-2).

Riley Lamb turned away 29-of-32 shots for Red Deer (16-13-6).

GIANTS 6 WINTERHAWKS 3

LANGLEY, B.C. — Thomas Foster struck twice and Tyler Benson tacked on three assists as the Giants doubled up Portland.

James Malm, Owen Hardy, Matt Barberis and Jeff Rayman supplied the rest of the offence for Vancouver (12-18-3). Ryan Kubic turned aside 31 shots.

Alex Overhardt, Evan Weinger and Skyler McKenzie scored for the Winterhawks (19-15-1). Cole Kehler took the loss after kicking out 24-of-29 shots in 44:25. Michael Bullion made one save in relief.

SILVERTIPS 4 AMERICANS 1

EVERETT, Wash. — Riley Sutter and Graham Millar had power-play goals in the first period to lift the Silvertips past Tri-City.

Patrick Bajkov also scored on the power play and Devon Skoleski had the other for Everett (23-4-5). Mario Petit made 22 saves.

Morgan Geekie opened the scoring for the American (19-14-3) and Evan Sarthou kicked out 43 shots.

COUGARS 3 THUNDERBIRDS 2

KENT, Wash. — Brad Morrison and Yan Khomenko scored in the second period as Prince George topped the Thunderbirds for its fourth straight win.

Colby McAuley opened the scoring 56 seconds into the first period for the Cougars (25-8-2). Nick McBridge turned away 25 shots.

Scott Eansor and Nolan Volcan had goals for Seattle (16-13-3), which got 31 saves from Rylan Toth.
