WHL Roundup: Stars deliver in big win for Brandon

RANDON, Man. — Jayce Hawryluk had a hat trick and an assist as the Wheat Kings routed Prince George 8-3.

John Quenneville had two goals and two assists while Ivan Provorov tacked on four helpers for Brandon (33-15-4). Nolan Patrick, Macoy Erkamps and Reid Duke supplied the rest of the offence.

Jesse Gabrielle and Tate Olson had a goal and two assists each for the Cougars (31-20-3), who also got a goal from Jansen Harkins.



PATS 5 TIGERS 1

REGINA — Tyler Brown made 41 saves and Lane Zablocki scored one of three first-period goals as the Regina Pats downed the Medicine Hat Tigers 5-1 on Friday night in Western Hockey League action.

Austin Wagner and Sean Richards also had goals in the first period for Regina (22-22-7). Sam Steel and Sergey Zborovskiy, into an empty net, rounded out the attack.

Alex Mowbray had a power-play goal in the first for the Tigers (20-29-4), who got 40 saves from Nick Schneider.

The Pats scored once on five power plays while Medicine Hat went 1 for 6.

RAIDERS 2 BRONCOS 1 (SO)

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Jordan Tkatch and Jesse Lees scored in the shootout as the Raiders slipped past Swift Current.

Tkatch tied the game at 1-1 with a power-play goal early in the third period for Prince Albert (29-17-6).

Jon Martin opened the scoring for the Broncos (18-28-5).

REBELS 5 ICE 2

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Adam Musil, Evan Polei and Colton Bobyk scored in the first period to lead Red Deer over the Ice.

Grayson Pawlenchuk and Adam Helewka had the others for the Rebels (33-16-3).

Roman Dymacek and Zak Zborosky found the back of the net for Kootenay (8-40-4).

HURRICANES 5 WARRIORS 1

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Cory Millette scored two goals and an assist as the Hurricanes downed Moose Jaw.

Ryan Vandervlis also struck twice for Lethbridge (37-15-0), which snapped a three-game skid. Brayden Burke added an empty netter.

Brayden Point scored 46 seconds into the second period for the Warriors (25-21-7).

Moose Jaw’s Josh Thrower was ejected late in the second period after receiving a major penalty for charging.

WINTERHAWKS 2 THUNDERBIRDS 1

PORTLAND, Ore. — Rodrigo Abols’s third-period goal stood as the winner as the Winterhawks snapped their three-game losing streak with a win over Seattle.

Rihards Bukarts had a power-play goal for Portland (26-24-2) in the second period.

Donovan Neuls responded with a goal on the man advantage for the Thunderbirds (28-20-3).

Seattle’s Turner Ottenbreit received a minor penalty for roughing, major penalty for checking to the head and a game misconduct at 15:43 of the second period.

CHIEFS 6 ROCKETS 3

KELOWNA, B.C. — Keanu Yamamoto struck twice as Spokane doubled up the Rockets.

Ethan McIndoe, Jaret Anderson-Dolan, Jacob Cardiff and Dominic Zwerger rounded out the attack for the Chiefs (26-20-5), who won their third in a row. Jason Fram added three helpers.

Jonathan Smart, Lucas Johansen and Calvin Thurkauf found the back of the net for Kelowna (35-14-3).

ROYALS 5 AMERICANS 4 (SO)

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Dante Hannoun scored the deciding goal in the shootout as Victoria slipped past the Americans.

Vladimir Bobylev struck twice in regulation for the Royals (33-15-5), who also had goals from Tyler Soy and Regan Nagy.

Brendan O’Reilly, Tyler Sandhu, Nolan Yaremko and Parker Wotherspoon supplied the offence for Tri-City (23-25-3).

HITMEN 3 GIANTS 2 (OT)

VANCOUVER — Radel Fazleev scored the overtime winner and added two assists as Calgary topped the Giants.

Jackson Houck had a pair of goals to lead the Hitmen (31-19-2) in regulation.

Chase Lang forced extra time at 16:22 of the third period, with Ty Ronning opening the scoring for Vancouver (20-29-5).

SILVERTIPS 4 BLAZERS 3

EVERETT, Wash. — Patrick Bajkov and Matt Fonteyne both had a goal and two assists as the Silvertips edged Kamloops.

Dawson Leedahl and Dario Winkler had the others for Everett (31-16-4).

Deven Sideroff scored twice on the power play in the third period for the Blazers (23-21-8). Jake Kryski also chipped in.
