WHL Roundup: Ty Lewis scores two as Wheat Kings topple Blades

BRANDON, Man. – Ty Lewis scored twice as the Brandon Wheat Kings defeated the Saskatoon Blades 5-3 on Sunday in Western Hockey League action.

Lewis chipped in the winner for at 18:04 of the third period and Connor Gutenberg, Tanner Kaspick and Stelio Mattheos also scored for Brandon (27-12-1).

Chase Wouters led the Blades (21-18-3) with two goals. Braylon Shmyr had the other.

Wheat Kings goaltender Logan Thompson turned aside 15 shots. Saskatoon’s Ryan Kubic made 25 saves.

Neither team scored on the power play. Brandon was 0 for 5 while the Blades went 0 for 1.

BRONCOS 5 REBELS 1

SWIFT CURRENT, Alta. — Artyom Minulin and Matteo Gennaro scored two goals apiece as the Broncos downed Red Deer.

Aleksi Heponiemi also scored for Swift Current (29-10-3).

Kristian Reichel had the lone goal for the Rebels (10-22-9).

PATS 4 RAIDERS 1

REGINA, Sask. — Jake Leschyshyn scored twice as the Pats beat Prince Albert.

Robbie Holmes and Bryan Lockner also scored for Regina (21-19-3).

Parker Kelly found the back of the net for the Raiders (15-18-8).

ROCKETS 3 HITMEN 1

CALGARY — Marek Skvrne scored the winner midway through the third period as Kelowna topped the Hitmen.

James Hilsendager and Conner Bruggen-Cate also scored for the Rockets (25-12-3).

Mark Kastelic had the lone goal for Calgary (13-22-6).

SILVERTIPS 9 ROYALS 4

EVERETT, Wash. — Matt Fonteyne scored two goals and set up two more as the Silvertips downed Victoria.

Connor Dewar and Bryce Kindopp also scored twice and Patrick Bajkov had a goal and four assists for Everett (24-16-2). Sean Richards and Kyle Walker also scored.

Jared Freadrich, Chaz Reddekopp, Tyler Soy and Andrei Grishakov supplied the offence for the Royals (23-16-4).

AMERICANS 4 BLAZERS 1

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Tyler Jette’s second-period goal stood as the winner as Tri-City topped the Blazers.

Parker AuCoin, Jordan Topping and Sasha Mutala also scored for the Americans (22-12-5).

Quinn Benjafield had the lone goal for Kamloops (17-20-3).
