WHL Roundup: Warriors end Wheat Kings’ win streak

VANCOUVER – Brad Morrison scored a hat trick to lead the Prince George Cougars past the Vancouver Giants 6-4 on Saturday night in Western Hockey League action.

Chase Witala, Jesse Gabrielle and Kody McDonald all had a goal and an assist for the Cougars (27-16-2). Ty Edmonds made 23 saves for the win in net.

Thomas Foster had a pair of goals for Vancouver (17-23-5), with Trevor Cox adding a goal and two assists. Ty Ronning chipped in with a goal and an assist while Ryan Kubic kicked out 33 shots in defeat.

Prince George scored three times on five power-play opportunities, with the Giants going 2 for 8.

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. -- Jon Martin scored both goals as the Broncos slipped past Red Deer.

Tyler Steenbergen assists on each of Martin's goals for Swift Current (14-26-5).

Michael Spacek had the lone goal for the Rebels (29-15-2).

HITMEN 3 OIL KINGS 2 (OT)

CALGARY -- Jake Bean scored the winner 2:42 into overtime as the Hitmen got past Edmonton.

Jackson Houck forced extra time with a goal at 16:33 of the third period for Calgary (27-17-2). Jakob Stukel had the other.

Davis Koch and Anatolii Elizarov opened the scoring for the Oil Kings (17-21-7).

WARRIORS 4 WHEAT KINGS 1

BRANDON, Man. -- Dryden Hunt had a goal and three assists as Moose Jaw toppled the Wheat Kings.

Tanner Jeannot, Brayden Point and Noah Gregor also scored for the Warriors (23-15-6).

Nolan Patrick answered in the third period on the power play for Brandon (27-13-4), which had a four-game winning streak snapped.

Point received a major penalty for clipping midway through the third period.

HURRICANES 3 RAIDERS 2 (OT)

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. -- Giorgio Estephan scored 53 seconds into extra time as the Hurricanes topped Prince Albert.

Corry Millette had a pair of second-period goals for Lethbridge (33-12-0), which won its seventh straight.

Sean Montgomery and Parker Kelly each had a goal and an assist to open the scoring for the Raiders (26-14-5).

TIGERS 4 ICE 2

CRANBROOK, B.C. -- Mark Rassell scored the eventual winner in the second period as Medicine Hat doubled up the Ice.

Chad Butcher, shorthanded, Ty Stanton and Caleb Fantillo rounded out the attack for the Tigers (18-22-4), who won their third in a row.

Cale Fleury and Zak Zborosky found the back of the net for Kootenay (8-35-3).

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Logan Christensen scored the winner as Saskatoon toppled the Winterhawks.

Connor Gay and Mason McCarty, into an empty net, also chipped in for the Blades (17-25-3).

Evan Weinger had the lone goal for Portland (22-20-2).

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Brandon Carlo scored the winner in the 10th round of the shootout as the Americans slipped past Regina.

Morgan Geekie, Kyle Olson, Jordan Topping and Dylan Coghlan had goals in regulation for Tri-City (19-23-2).

Rykr Cole, Cole Sanford, Jared Freadrich and Adam Brooks supplied the offence for the Pats (19-20-7).

VICTORIA -- Justin Kirkland scored the overtime winner as Kelowna edged the Royals.

Dillon Dube had the other for the Rockets (30-11-3) in regulation.

Tyler Soy had the lone goal for Victoria (26-15-5).

EVERETT, Wash. -- Cole MacDonald had two goals and an assist as the Silvertips downed Seattle.

Connor Dewar, Kevin Davis and Carson Stadnyk also scored for Everett (26-12-4).

Donovan Neuls responded in the third period for the Thunderbirds (24-16-3).
