WHL roundup: Wheat Kings roll to third straight win

RED DEER, Alta. – Michael Spacek’s second goal of the game was the overtime winner as the Red Deer Rebels edged the Moose Jaw Warriors 4-3 on Saturday night in Western Hockey League action.

Jake DeBrusk and Adam Musil also chipped in for the Rebels (34-16-3), who got 21 saves from Rylan Toth.

Dryden Hunt provided the offence for Moose Jaw (25-21-8), scoring a hat trick, including two goals on the power play. Zach Sawchenko turned away 42 shots in net.

Red Deer went 0 for 1 on the power play while the Warriors converted twice on three attempts.

OIL KINGS 4, BLAZERS 0

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Ben Carroll had two goals and an assist while Patrick Dea stopped all 24 shots he faced as Edmonton blanked the Blazers.

Brett Pollock and Dario Meyer also scored for the Oil Kings (23-23-7), who won their fourth in a row.

Connor Ingram turned aside 30 shots for Kamloops (23-22-8).

PATS 5, COUGARS 3

REGINA — Cole Sanford scored twice and added an assist as the Pats got past Prince George.

Jared McAmmond, Rykr Cole and Sam Steel rounded out the attack for Regina (23-22-7), which got three helpers from Adam Brooks.

Chase Witala, Jesse Gabrielle and Justin Almeida had goals for the Cougars (31-21-3).

BRONCOS 4, BLADES 1

SASKATOON — Jamal Watson scored the first of three-straight goals in the first period as Swift Current downed the Blades.

Lane Pederson and Calvin Spencer also had first-period goals for the Broncos (19-27-6). Max Lajoie added a power-play goal in the second.

Mason McCarty responded with a goal on the man advantage in the third for Saskatoon (18-30-4).

WHEAT KINGS 6, TIGERS 2

BRANDON, Man. — Nolan Patrick struck twice as the Wheat Kings beat Medicine Hat for their third-straight win.

Tim McGauley had a goal and two assists for Brandon (34-15-4). Ivan Provorov, John Quenneville and Duncan Campbell rounded out the attack.

Chad Butcher and Matt Bradley answered in the third for the Tigers (20-30-4).

ICE 2, HURRICANES 0

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Wyatt Hoflin made 31 saves as the Ice shut out Lethbridge to snap a 10-game losing streak.

Matt Alfaro and River Beattie, on the power play, found the back of the net for Kootenay (9-40-4).

Jayden Sittler kicked out 31 shots for the Hurricanes (37-16-0).

ROYALS 3, WINTERHAWKS 1

PORTLAND, Ore. — Ryan Peckford scored the winner in the third period as Victoria beat the Winterhawks.

Alex Forsberg and Vladimir Bobylev also had goals in the third for the Royals (34-15-5).

Cody Glass opened the scoring in the first for Portland (26-25-2).

SILVERTIPS 4, THUNDERBIRDS 1

KENT, Wash. — Carson Stadnyk scored twice in the first period as Everett toppled the Thunderbirds.

Graham Millar also had a pair of goals for the Silvertips (32-16-4), who won their third straight.

Brandon Schuldhaus found the back of the net in the third for Seattle (28-21-3).

ROCKETS 3, HITMEN 2 (SO)

KELOWNA, B.C. — Justin Kirkland scored the only goal of the shootout as the Rockets edged Calgary.

Tyson Baillie forced extra time with a goal at 19:10 of the third period for Kelowna (36-14-3). Dillon Dube had the other.

Jake Bean and Keegan Kanzig supplied the offence for the Hitmen (31-19-3).

AMERICANS 4, CHIEFS 1

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Tyler Sandhu struck twice as the Americans snapped Spokane’s three-game winning streak.

Beau McCue and Austyn Playfair rounded out the attack for Tri-City (24-25-3).

Taylor Ross replied with a goal in the third period for the Chiefs (26-21-5).
