WHL Roundup: Wheat Kings bust out vs. Broncos

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Jayce Hawryluk scored a hat trick and added an assist and Jordan Papirny stopped all 17 shots he faced as the Brandon Wheat Kings shut out the Swift Current Broncos 8-0 on Wednesday night in Western Hockey League action.

Ivan Provorov, Ty Lewis, Stelio Mattheos, Tanner Kaspick and Tim McGauley supplied the rest of the offence for the Wheat Kings (16-8-2). John Quenneville tacked on three assists.

Landon Bow started in net for Swift Current (8-16-3), but was replaced after kicking out 10-of-14 shots in 17:18. Travis Child came on in relief and turned away 30-of-34 shots in 42:42.

Brandon scored three times on six power plays while the Broncos were 0 for 2.

PATS 5 BLADES 0

SASKATOON — Adam Brooks had two goals and an assist and Tyler Brown made 32 saves as Regina blanked the Blades.

Aaron Macklin, Colton Kroeker and Rykr Cole also chipped in for the Pats (13-11-2).

Brock Hamm started for Saskatoon (10-13-3), but was replaced after turning away 8-of-11 shots in 16:57. Jake Morrissey went the rest of the way and made 14 saves.

HURRICANES 6 HITMEN 4

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Tyler Wong struck twice as the Hurricanes got past Calgary.

Cory Millette, Egor Babenko, Justin Gutierrez and Carter Folk also found the back of the net as Lethbridge (18-9-0) won its third straight.

Keegan Kanzig, Mark Kastelic, Tyler Mrkonjic and Pavel Karnaukhov scored for the Hitmen (16-11-2), who entered the game having picked up points in each of their previous eight games.

VANCOUVER — Ryan Kubic stopped all 33 shots he faced and Ty Ronning had a hat trick as the Giants shut out Medicine Hat.

Dylan Plouffe, Chase Lang and Trevor Cox added the others for Vancouver (7-16-4).

Mack Shields kicked out 22 shots for the Tigers (7-15-3).

COUGARS 5 WINTERHAWKS 3

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Kody McDonald had a goal and two assists to power the Cougars past Portland.

Chase Witala, Jesse Gabrielle, Luke Harrison and Jared Bethune supplied the rest of the offence for Prince George (15-9-2).

Jack Dougherty, Paul Bittner and Dominic Turgeon scored for the Winterhawks (12-13-0).

ROCKETS 4 ICE 1

KELOWNA, B.C. — Rourke Chartier scored a hat trick in his first game back from injury as the Rockets toppled Kootenay.

Justin Kirkland added the other for Kelowna (20-6-1).

Max Patterson found the back of the net for the Ice (6-21-2), who lost their fifth straight.

AMERICANS 4 SILVERTIPS 1

EVERETT, Wash. — Juuso Valimaki and Beau McCue had short-handed goals to lead Tri-City over the Silvertips.

Parker AuCoin and Dylan Coghlan rounded out the attack for the Americans (11-16-1).

Brian King scored a short-handed goal for Everett (14-8-2).
