WHL Roundup: Wheat Kings stay hot, beat Warriors

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Reid Gardiner scored a hat trick to lead the Prince Albert Raiders past the Saskatoon Blades 6-4 on Friday night in Western Hockey League action.

Jesse Lees added a goal and three assists for the Raiders (38-25-8). Kolten Olynek and Luke Coleman also chipped in.

Wyatt Sloboshan had a pair of goals for Saskatoon (25-42-4), which dropped its sixth in a row. Mason McCarty and Connor Gay rounded out the attack.

Ian Scott picked up the win in net after stopping all 10 shots he faced in 30:22. Rylan Parenteau started for Prince Albert and turned away 9-of-13 shots in 29:38. Brock Hamm made 39 saves in defeat.

The Raiders were 2 for 5 on the power play while Saskatoon scored once on five chances.

WHEAT KINGS 6 WARRIORS 2

BRANDON, Man. — Stelio Mattheos and John Quenneville each had two goals and an assist as the Wheat Kings downed Moose Jaw.

Linden McCorrister also scored twice for Brandon (47-18-6), which improved to 10-0-2 in its last 12 games.

Noah Gregor and Dryden Hunt found the back of the net for the Warriors (35-27-9).

PATS 5 BRONCOS 4 (OT)

REGINA — Connor Hobbs scored 10 seconds into overtime as the Pats held off Swift Current for their fifth straight win.

Riley Woods tied the game late in the third period for Regina (36-27-8). Sam Steel and Chase Harrison had power-play goals with Austin Wagner adding the other.

Colby Sissons had a goal and two assists for the Broncos (24-37-10), who rallied back from a 3-0 deficit. Calvin Spencer, Jamal Watson and Artyom Minulin rounded out the attack.

Adam Berg of the Pats was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct in the second for checking to the head.

HITMEN 5 ICE 2

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Jakob Stukel struck twice, including once on the power play, as Calgary got past the Ice.

Carsen Twarynski, Matteo Gennaro and Tristen Nielsen also chipped in for the Hitmen (41-26-4).

Zak Zborosky scored both goals for Kootenay (12-53-6).

HURRICANES 9 TIGERS 3

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Brayden Burke scored twice and added an assist and goaltender Stuart Skinner added an empty netter as the Hurricanes routed Medicine Hat to claim the Central Division title.

Ben Duperreault, Ryan Vandervlis, Colton Kroeker, Ryley Lindgren, Cory Millette and Tyler Wong supplied the rest of the offence for Lethbridge (46-23-2).

David Quenneville had a pair of goals for the Tigers (29-37-5), with Zach Fischer adding the other.

BLAZERS 4 COUGARS 1

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Collin Shirley had a pair of goals as the Blazers beat Prince George for their eighth straight win.

Gage Quinney and Matt Revel added the others for Kamloops (37-25-9).

Jansen Harkins scored a power-play goal in the second for the Cougars (36-30-5).

CHIEFS 5 WINTERHAWKS 4 (OT)

PORTLAND, Ore. — Hudson Elynuik scored the overtime winner as Spokane topped the Winterhawks.

Keanu Yamamoto, Matt Sozanski, Presten Kopeck and Nik Andersen rounded out the attack for the Chiefs (33-29-9), with Kailer Yamamoto tacking on three assists.

Rihards Bukarts, Keegan Iverson, Alex Overhardt and Dominic Turgeon had goals for Portland (34-30-6).

AMERICANS 2 THUNDERBIRDS 1

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Brandon Carlo scored the overtime winner but the Americans were still eliminated from the WHL playoffs despite a win over Seattle.

Nolan Yaremko opened the scoring in the first for Tri-City (34-34-3).

Scott Eansor tied the game with a short-handed goal in the third for the Thunderbirds (43-23-4), who entered the night with an 11-game winning streak.

The Americans were eliminated due to Portland and Spokane going into overtime.

ROCKETS 5 GIANTS 3

VANCOUVER — Justin Kirkland scored twice as Kelowna got past the Giants.

Rodney Southam, Dillon Dube and Cole Linaker also had goals for the Rockets (47-20-4).

Owen Hardy, Trevor Cox and Radovan Bondra chipped in for Vancouver (23-39-9).

ROYALS 4 SILVERTIPS 2

EVERETT, Wash. — Tyler Soy had two goals and an assist as Victoria doubled up the Silvertips.

Jack Walker scored the winner with Alex Forsberg adding an empty netter for the Royals (49-16-6), who improved to 12-0-1 in their last 13 games.

Carson Stadnyk and Devon Skoleski found the back of the net for Everett (38-25-8).
