Winnipeg dad, coaches, brawl in front of players

FARGO, N.D. – Minor hockey officials are investigating a fight involving a parent and some coaches from two Winnipeg teams following a game at a tournament in North Dakota.

The fisticuffs broke out last Sunday in Fargo where a player’s father threw punches in the opposing team’s locker room that was filled with several eight-year-old boys.

Mike Prochnow of the West Fargo Hockey Association says some parents were upset over something that had happened on the ice and the trouble began when the mother of one of the boys confronted the other team’s coaches in their dressing room.

Prochnow says she was warned four times to leave and the coaches were trying to escort her to the door when her husband jumped in and started swinging.

He says the man suffered a cut lip and a black eye, but Fargo police did not lay charges.

Hockey Winnipeg was expected to comment on the fight Wednesday when it was to announce details of an online course called Respect in Sport. (CJOB, CTV Winnipeg, Winnipeg Free Press)
