3 Things We Learned in the NHL: Streaking Oilers

Leon Draisaitl scored two goals and Cam Talbot made 26 saves leading the Edmonton Oilers to a 4-0 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

There’s a pair of streaking Oilers, one Canuck is continuing to have a solid season and a Maple Leafs defenceman scored on a milestone night.

Here’s three things we learned Wednesday in the NHL:

Streaking Oilers
Edmonton centre Leon Draisaitl continues to impress in his second full NHL season, scoring twice for the Oilers as they went on to blank the Anaheim Ducks 4-0.

The goal gives the 21-year-old points in five straight games. He now has 19 goals and 25 assists through 50 games.

Draisaitl wasn’t the only one to extend a point streak to five games as Zach Kassian also did so with a second period goal.

Draisaitl has also proven to be a pain for Ducks defenders when the two teams meet.

Scoring when it counts
Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Roman Polak doesn’t score often, but when he does, it’s memorable.

The 30-year-old found the back of the net in Toronto’s 4-0 win over the Detroit Red Wings in what was his 600th NHL game.

Polak is typically a stay-at-home defenceman and his goal against the Red Wings was just his third of the season and 22nd of his career.

Don’t expect Polak to start contributing all the time offensively now, though. He’s more than content with killing penalties and staying back on the rush.

Sven again
It’s no secret that Sven Baertschi is having a career year and Vancouver’s 3-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche was another example.

Baertschi struck twice for the Canucks and now has 13 goals in 46 games. His career high for goals in a season is 15, which he scored last year.

The 24-year-old winger had gone the previous eight games without a goal but ranks second on Vancouver in goals scored.
