5 things we learned in the NHL: Can’t solve Bob

Sergei Bobrovsky was on his toes, making a save on Adam Henrique after the puck bounced off the boards right in front of the crease.

There’s no hotter goalie in the NHL right now than Sergei Bobrovsky.

His shutout streak along with James van Riemsdyk snapping his long goalless drought is among the five things we learned around the league on Tuesday night.

Drought over

Toronto Maple Leafs forward James van Riemsdyk snapped a 14-game goalless drought with a first period power-play goal against the Detroit Red Wings. The last time van Riemsdyk had scored prior to Tuesday night was a two-goal performance against the Boston Bruins on Feb. 4.

The Leafs went on to win the game 3-2 although van Riemsdyk was assessed two minor penalties.

Toronto also snapped a five-game losing streak with the victory.

Can’t solve Bob

It may be impossible to score on Bobrovsky.

The Blue Jackets goaltender made 33 saves to record his third-straight shutout as Columbus blanked the New Jersey Devils 2-0. It’s the first time a Blue Jackets goaltender has accomplished the feat since 2008.

Bobrovsky also set a career high in shutouts with his sixth of the season.

Rolling Habs

The Montreal Canadiens continued their winning ways by topping the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 in overtime.

The Habs have won six in a row and improved to 10-1-2 in their last 13 games against Vancouver.

No. 66 on the board

Don’t worry Mario Lemieux enthusiasts, there’s a new No. 66 in town.

Josh Ho-Sang scored his first career NHL goal with a one-timer from the point on a power play as the New York Islanders defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-1.

Sportsnet’s Rory Boylen broke down the supposed controversy of Ho-Sang wearing Lemieux’s former number prior to the game.

Moving on up

Step aside, Grant Fuhr; Henrik Lundqvist has taken your place.

The New York Rangers goaltender passed Fuhr for 10th on the NHL’s all-time wins list by a goaltender after stopping 43 shots in a 5-2 victory over the Florida Panthers.

It was Lundqvist’s 404th career win and he’s only three more victories shy of tying Glenn Hall’s 407 wins.
