The Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League will honour Cpl. Nathan Cirillo as part of their Military Appreciation Night festivities on Dec. 5, 2014.
Canadian NHL teams paid tribute to Cpl. Cirillo following the tragedy in Ottawa where the soldier was shot dead while guarding the National War Memorial on Oct. 22. The Bulldogs will wear a commemorative jersey as well as raise funds in support of the Marcus Cirillo Trust for the Dec.5 game versus the Toronto Marlies.
Two dollars from every ticket sold to the game will be donated to the Marcus Cirillo Trust.

The Bulldogs will wear a special commemorative jersey during the game. The jersey, designed in conjunction with representatives of the Cirillo family and SP Apparel, is a tribute to Cpl. Cirillo’s ceremonial attire with the cap and badge of his regiment on the shoulder and pant shell. The team will also wear black helmets donated by Reebok-CCM.
“We’re looking to bring together the Hamilton community to help raise money for Cpl. Cirillo’s son, Marcus,” said Hamilton Bulldogs President Stephen Ostaszewicz. “This falls in line with our annual Military Appreciation Night where we honour those that serve in the Canadian Armed Forces.”
Cpl. Cirillo’s father Vic, son Marcus, and sister Natasha will be on-hand to participate in the ceremonial puck drop.
Additionally, the club will donate $2 from every ticket sold to the Marcus Cirillo Trust. Proceeds from an auction and an in-game contest will also to the trust in Cpl. Cirillo’s son’s name.
In speaking with Ken Campbell of The Hockey News, Bulldogs’ president Stephen Ostaszewicz said the club hopes to raise $50,000 for Cirillo’s son.
