Watch: Ovechkin bloodied in scrimmage

The Washington Capitals have re-signed restricted free agent centre Marcus Johansson to a two-year, $4 million contract.

Scary moments abound in the NHL’s abbreviated training camp as teams rush to find chemistry and fine-tune line combinations in advance of Saturday’s puck drop.

If it’s not Mike Komisarek blasting a puck off fellow Toronto Maple Leaf James van Riemsdyk’s foot (bruise), it’s a pair of Washington Capitals wingers colliding in open ice.

During a Tuesday morning scrimmage versus the Reading Royals, Caps forwards Alex Ovechkin (being tried out on the right wing) and Marcus Johansson blindly ran into each other with some pace during the first period, CSNWashington.com reports.

Johansson hit the ice and was slow to collect himself, and Ovechkin went to the dressing room with a bloody chin.

The Great 8 returned before the scrimmage ended and scored his first training camp goal.
