Ovechkin responds to Getzlaf with bald joke

Alex Ovechkin and Andre Burakovsky both scored two goals to help the Washington Capitals defeat the Anaheim Ducks.

Anyone else suddenly rooting for a Ducks-Caps Stanley Cup final?

Given his chance to respond to Ryan Getzlaf’s accusation that he’s guilty of embellishment, Alex Ovechkin dived right into a bald joke.

“Maybe he’s just jealous. I have hair; he don’t have hair,” a smiling Ovechkin told reporters prior to Tuesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins at CONSOL Energy Center.

“No. I think he commented because they lost. It is what it is,” the NHL’s leading goal-scorer went on. “I don’t think somebody can call me a diver in this league.”

Gotta See It: Ovechkin’s response to Getzlaf

Ovechkin scored two goals and drew a slashing penalty from Getzlaf during the Capitals’ 5-3 victory Sunday.

Following the loss, the Ducks’ second in nine days to Washington, Getzlaf told reporters that Ovechkin’s diving was an embarrassment.

“I didn’t know he was going to dive tonight the way he did all over the f—— ice. That part of it’s a little [more] embarrassing, pardon my language. He’s a great player. He’s going to score goals and make plays. That other stuff’s embarrassing,” Getzlaf said. “The slash on me. The slash on his hand. When we ran into him and he dove down. All those things. It’s embarrassing to the game.”

UPDATE: “He made a hair joke? That’s unbelievable”
Getzlaf was reached for his reaction to Ovechkin’s comments Tuesday and said he didn’t want to hash things out through the media.
