The Montreal Canadiens are free of forward Alexander Semin, who is expected to sign with Metallurg Magnitogorsk Thursday, according to Russian news outlet Sovetsky Sport and TVA.
Semin, who signed with the Canadiens for one year at $1.1 million on July 24, was placed on unconditional waivers Wednesday and his contract was terminated at noon Thursday.
His salary will completely come off Montreal’s cap.
In 15 games with the Canadiens, Semin recorded one goal and three assists. He was scratched from eight games and missed five with a lower-body injury.
