Speculation that Andrei Loktionov might remain in the National Hockey League is over.
The forward, who was an unrestricted free agent, signed with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the Kontinental hockey League, the team announced Friday.
Loktionov’s agent, Igor Larionov, told R-Sport last month that his client had received interest from five NHL teams as well as four in the KHL.
Loktionov put up 22 points in 68 games with the Carolina Hurricanes and New Jersey Devils in 2013-14 despite seeing less than 13 minutes of ice time per game.
After leaving the Russian Superleague after the 2007-08 season, the centre lit it up as an Ontario Hockey League star for the 2008-09 Windsor Spitfires (66 points in 51 games), but his 155 NHL games were spread among three teams and only yielded 22 goals total.
The 24-year-old native of Voskresensk, Russia, played seven games for Lokomotiv back in 2007-08.
The eighth-place Lokomotiv also signed former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Petri Kontiola this month.
