Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Dave Nonis was spotted at Rexall Place in Edmonton Friday night during the Oilers game versus the Vancouver Canucks.
Nonis’ presence could mean only one thing in the realm of Twitter… the two clubs must be poised to pull off a blockbuster trade.
Sportsnet insider Chris Johnston joined Tim & Sid on the Fan590 on Monday to discuss the possibility. Could the Leafs be set to exchange personnel with the Oilers or Canucks?
Despite both clubs’ abundance of needs to vault themselves into contention in their respective conferences, Johnston downplayed Nonis’ attendance.
“I don’t see any immediate trades on the horizon,” Johnston told Tim & Sid. “People still think the Leafs might trade James Reimer. I’m of the opinion that holding on to him at this point is probably best and see how this plays out.”
“I don’t think anything more should be read into it at this point. Maybe if he’s [Nonis] there a few more times in the next few weeks we can start connecting more dots,” Johnston added.
You can pack your James Reimer, Jake Gardiner, and Nail Yakupov trade rumblings away for another day.
