Avalanche acquire forward Brendan Ranford for Joe Whitney

The Colorado Avalanche have acquired forward Brendan Ranford from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for Joe Whitney.

Ranford will be assigned to Colorado’s farm club in San Antonio, the third AHL team the 24-year-old will join this season.

He has six goals and 17 points in 46 AHL games this season. His lone NHL appearance came in 2014-15 with the Dallas Stars.

Whitney has 11 goals and 28 points with San Antonio this season, and was the team’s captain.

The 29-year-old has one goal in five career NHL games.
