Avalanche sign Soderberg to 5-year contract

Well that was fast.

The Colorado Avalanche have signed Carl Soderberg to a five-year contract worth $23.75 million, less than 24 hours after acquiring the rights to the Swedish centre from the Boston Bruins.

By signing Soderberg to a deal with an average annual value of $4.75 million, it appears as though Ryan O’Reilly’s time with the Avalanche will soon be over. O’Reilly will earn $6 million against the cap in the final year of his current deal, and he’s been the subject of trade rumours.

Soderberg will turn 30 in October. He scored 13 goals and 44 points in 82 games in 2014-15.

The Bruins received a 2016 sixth-round pick in exchange for Soderberg’s rights.
