While a guest on Wednesday’s Hockeycentral @ Noon, Dallas Stars general manager Brett Hull suggested suspended forward Sean Avery has issues that might require medical treatment to resolve.
Avery was suspended indefinitely by the NHL on Tuesday after making disparaging remarks about ex-girlfriend Elisha Cuthbert, who is currently dating Calgary Flames defenceman Dion Phaneuf.
The Stars, minus Avery, beat the Flames Tuesday night 3-1.
Avery will meet with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman at 12 p.m. ET Thursday to explain himself.
Hull, known for making the odd outrageous statement himself, told Hockeycentral even he was surprised by Avery’s latest outburst.
"For me to be flabbergasted, it’s pretty good," he said. "There’s probably deeper issues that need to be dealt with as a person, forget being a hockey player. I think there might be some sort of medical help that he can get to help him out."
Hull added treatment has not been discussed with Avery in the past, but that now it is "on the front burner."
"I think the biggest problem is he doesn’t really understand what he does until it’s over," said Hull.
