In case you missed it, Game 3 between the Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers got a bit ugly.
A game that started with a heart-warming Philly tribute and a great start by the home side, soon devolved into a bracelet-throwing, penalty-filled runaway for the visiting Capitals. By the end of it “embarrassing” was trending on Twitter in Philadelphia.

“It wasn’t good for the game plain and simple,” Capitals coach Barry Trotz said. “We’re on national television and I don’t think it displays our game very well.”
Over the last 14 minutes in the game, the Flyers took 33 penalty minutes to Washington’s four. The penalties started to snowball after Pierre-Edouard Bellemare took a five-minute major for checking Dmitry Orlov from behind as Radko Gudas and Ryan White both picked up 10-minute misconducts in the ensuing fracas. Minutes later, the fans earned a penalty for their team by throwing bracelets on the ice.
Washington began the period with a narrow 2-1 lead, but by the end of it they ran away with a 6-1 win.
“Obviously we pulled the game away and they weren’t interested in playing anymore,” Trotz said. “And so we ended up on the power play for the last seven or eight minutes.”
