Many believed Matt Beleskey would be traded by the Anaheim Ducks if the two parties couldn’t come to an agreement on a contract extension before Monday’s trade deadline.

The deadline passed, Beleskey is still on the Ducks and the two sides are continuing to work on an extension, according to ProHockeyTalk.

“We continue to work through the process,” Beleskey’s agent, Murray Kuntz, said in an email to the outlet Tuesday. “Matt’s priority is to remain in Anaheim for many years to come. Hopefully we can make that happen.”

Beleskey’s current salary cap hit is $1.350 million, but he’s expected to receive a significant raise.

The 26-year-old pending unrestricted free agent has already set career highs in goals (21) and points (30) though 56 games this season.

Beleskey is one of five UFAs the Ducks have to make a decision on. The others are defencemen Francois Beauchemin, Sheldon Souray, Korbinian Holzer and forward Tomas Fleischmann.
