Ben Bishop responds to P.K. Subban’s slight

Ben Bishop was impressed by the defensive effort made by his team that helped locked down the Montreal Canadiens in Game 6 to send them to the Eastern Conference finals.

Looks like P.K. Subban gave the Tampa Bay Lightning a little bulletin-board material after Game 4.

After the Montreal Canadiens exploded for a playoffs-high six goals Thursday, chasing Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop in the process, the defenceman fired a subtle little shot at the guy most considered the second-best goalie in the series.

“I think Bishop sort of was sitting on a horseshoe for a little bit there,” Subban told reporters after that decisive win. “He’s played well, but he’s been lucky as well.”

Gotta Hear It: Subban’s original comment and Coach Cooper’s reaction

The Lightning no doubt caught wind of Subban’s comment, as you can see by the item placed in Bishop’s stall:

The good-to-be-lucky Bishop responded Tuesday in Game 6, stopping 18 of 19 shots and helping the Bolts secure redemption for their 2014 sweep at Montreal’s hands and a berth in the Eastern Conference final.

“Thank goodness for my lucky horseshoe,” Bishop told reporters after the 4-1 victory. Cheeky.

Bishop’s numbers in these playoffs (.931 save percentage, 1.81 goals-against average) are better than those of certain Vezina Trophy winner Carey Price (.920 save peercentage, 2.23 goals-against average).

“I kinda took this as a Game 7 at home,” Bishop said. “I prepared the same way as I did Game 7 against Detroit.”
