Blackhawks extend Seabrook with 8-year, $54.8M contract

The Chicago Blackhawks extended defenceman Brent Seabrook with an eight-year, $54.8 million contract on Saturday.

The 10-year veteran is in the last year of his previous five-year deal worth $29 million. The new contract will kick in next season and continue through 2023-24.

Seabrook, drafted in 2003, entered the NHL in 2005-06 and has since played 763 games, scoring 318 points over that span. Last season he scored eight goals and 23 assists while helping the Blackhawks to their third Stanley Cup in six years.

He helped Canada win gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
