Blue Jackets’ Tortorella on LeBron James: ‘I want to see him skate’

LeBron James may be ‘King’ on the court, but on the ice he’d be more like a squire.

At least Columbus Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella thinks so.

Tortorella was recently on the Bull & Fox show on 92.3 The Fan based out of Cleveland. The hosts, Adam ‘The Bull’ and Dustin Fox, playfully asked if James could play hockey if he wanted to.

“Not a chance,” said Tortorella. “He can’t skate, he’s too damn big. He can’t skate.”

In fact, Tortorella was so confident in his stance (as he should be) that he doubled down and issued the three-time NBA champion a challenge.

“And you can tell him I said that, I challenge him,” he said. “Tell him to get his ass out here and come on the ice and skate with us, I want to see him skate.”

While there have been many instances of players participating in multiple sports at the professional level (Bo Jackson, Michael Jordan), never has there been one toeing the line between basketball and hockey.

James may be one of the greatest basketball players of all time, but he’s probably going to have to keep the skating to hockey players.
