The St. Louis Blues will be without captain David Backes when they host the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night.

Backes has been diagnosed with a concussion, the team announced.

St. Louis Blues on Twitter: “Both Backes and Oshie won’t play tonight. Hitchcock says both have been diagnosed with concussions. #stlblues”

Backes left Tuesday’s game versus the Dallas Stars after his head hit the ice following a collision with Trevor Daley.

The Blues will also be without Backes’ linemate T.J. Oshie, who was diagnosed with a concussion himself that came when Dallas’ Patrick Eaves shoved him into the goal post. Oshie is also dealing with symptoms that may be related to an infection.

Backes has two goals and five points through eight games, while Oshie has registered just one assist in eight games.

The Blues are already without the services of off-season free agent acquisition Paul Stastny, who continues to work his way back from an upper-body injury.

With Backes and Oshie out, Magnus Paajarvi and Chris Porter will step into the lineup Thursday against Anaheim.
