Patrik Berglund‘s 2017-18 campaign likely won’t begin until sometime in December.
The St. Louis Blues announced Wednesday the centre underwent surgery to repair a dislocated left shoulder and his recovery time is expected to be approximately five months.
Berglund sustained the injury in his native Sweden during an off-season workout as part of his conditioning program, according to the Blues, and the surgery took place at the Washington University Orthopedic Center.
The 29-year-old scored a career-high 23 goals this past season and signed a five-year extension with the Blues in February worth $19.25 million, carrying a $3.85 million cap hit.
Berglund has spent his entire NHL career with the Blues after the team selected him 25th overall in the 2006 NHL Draft. He has 151 goals and 145 assists for 296 points in 637 career regular-season games.
