Brett Gallant released from hospital after bench collapse

Lake Erie Monsters forward Brett Gallant was taken off on a stretcher at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto after experiencing a medical emergency while on the bench.

Lake Erie Monsters forward Brett Gallant has been released from hospital Saturday after he collapsed on the bench during an AHL game Friday night.

During a TV timeout in a game between the Monsters and Toronto Marlies, Gallant collapsed and was taken away on a stretcher after regaining consciousness. Lake Erie coach Jared Bednar called it a fainting spell.

He will travel back to Cleveland and continue to be evaluated by team doctors.

Gallant, 27, has appeared in 47 games for Lake Erie this season and has played in the AHL since the 2009-10 season.
