Flames place tough guy McGrattan on waivers

Coach Hartley gives a positive prognosis on Karri Ramo’s injured neck after his collision with teammate Raphael Diaz, who recalls the scary incident.

The Calgary Flames just got a little less truculent.

The Flames placed six-foot-four, 235-pound tough guy Brian McGrattan on waivers Friday.

A 33-year-old native of Hamilton, Ont., McGrattan got into the Calgary lineup on just eight occasions this season and failed to register a point. He has four penalty minutes and a minus-2 rating.

McGrattan’s two-year, $1.5-million contract with the club will expire on July 1.

In 317 career NHL games with the Ottawa Senators, Phoenix Coyotes, Nashville Predators and the Flames, the winger has 10 goals, 17 assists and 609 penalty minutes.
