BOSTON — Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli has sternly refuted a local media report that forward Marc Savard could be out for the season.
ESPNBoston.com is reporting that, according to an unnamed team source, Savard could miss all of the 2010-11 season due to post-concussion syndrome.
However, Chiarelli issued a statement Tuesday that shot down the report, calling it "completely inaccurate."
"As I stated on Friday, Marc Savard is suffering from symptoms related to post-concussion syndrome," said Chiarelli. "He is under the care of our doctors. Any reports that suggest that there are any other issues regarding Marc, or him not playing for the Bruins this season, are completely inaccurate."
Savard sustained a concussion March 7 as a result of a hit by Pittsburgh’s Matt Cooke. He missed the remainder of the regular season and did not return to the Bruins’ lineup until the first game of the team’s second-round playoff series with Philadelphia.
Chiarelli said Friday, the first day of training camp, that Savard has been suffering for a couple of weeks from post-concussion syndrome, but would not reveal when the star centre would be able to return to action.
Savard has not addressed the media since training camp opened.
