Bruins sign David Backes to 5-year, $30-million deal

Take another big name off the board, the Boston Bruins have signed free agent forward David Backes to a five-year contract.

Backes helped the Blues reach the Western Conference final this past season. The 32-year-old scored 21 goals and added 45 assists in 79 games in 2015-16.

Backes served as the Blues captain since the 2011 season. The Blues selected Backes in the second round (62nd overall) in the 2003 NHL Draft.

In 727 games over the course of his career Backes has registered 206 goals and 460 points.
