Residents of Calgary and many places in Alberta can empathize with what those in the Greater Toronto Area are dealing with Tuesday following a torrential downpour Monday that led to flooding and power outages.
Toronto was hit with a record 126mm of rain in a seven-hour period — setting an all-time record for Toronto Pearson Airport — which left thousands of commuters stranded and a plethora of homes and roads flooded.
On June 20, Alberta began dealing with a series of flash floods that has left the province recovering ever since.
The Calgary Flames know all too well what it’s like to deal with serious flooding and property damage.
The Scotiabank Saddledome, the Flames’ home arena, was severely damaged by flood waters and although there has been no reported damage to the Leafs’ Air Canada Centre, the Flames reached out to their National Hockey League counterparts the Maple Leafs.
Several members of the Maple Leafs — Joffrey Lupul, Carl Gunnarsson and unrestricted free agent Mike Kostka, who spent last season with the Leafs — also tweeted about the storm.
UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who is in Toronto for a UFC 165 press conference Tuesday sent his best to city residents.
Also, Toronto Argonauts kicker Swayze Waters sent out a tweet with this image of the city.
