Calgary Flames recall Tyler Wotherspoon on emergency basis

Mikkel Boedker scored the shootout winner as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Calgary Flames.

The Calgary Flames recalled defenceman Tyler Wotherspoon from the AHL’s Stockton Heat on an emergency basis Sunday.

Wotherspoon has played eight games with the Flames this season recording no points while being a plus-three. He has six assists in 45 games with Stockton.

The 23-year-old was drafted in the second round, 57th overall in the 2011 NHL Draft.

Wotherspoon was needed as defenceman Deryk Engelland left the team to be with his newborn baby.

The Flames are in Montreal to take on the Canadiens Sunday night at 7:00 p.m. ET. The game can be seen on Sportsnet.
