Canadiens assign 17 players to AHL’s IceCaps

Kyle Baun had two goals and an assist as the Blackhawks thumped Carey Price and the Canadiens, winning 5-1.

The Montreal Canadiens cut 17 players from their training camp on Saturday.

Goaltenders Zachary Fucale and Edward Pasquale, defencemen Mac Bennett, Travis Brown, Ryan Johnston, Dalton Thrower, Josiah Didier and Brett Lernout, and forwards Tim Bozon, Connor Crisp, Stefan Fournier, Nicolas Blanchard, Jamal Watson, Angelo Miceli, Mark MacMillan, Brandon McNally and Marcus Eisenschmid have all been assigned to the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League.

That leaves Montreal with 24 forwards, 13 defencemen and three goaltenders.

The Canadiens (0-1-2) will play the Toronto Maple Leafs (3-1-0) Saturday before receiving the Pittsburgh Penguins at the new Videotron Centre in Quebec City Monday.

The IceCaps are traveling to Newfoundland on Sunday to continue their training camp.
