Montreal Canadiens sniper Mike Cammalleri will remain out of the lineup indefinitely through the Olympic break with a knee injury, Sportsnet has learned, but is expected back before the end of the regular season.
It was first feared that Cammalleri had sustained a season-ending injury in Montreal’s 3-2 overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. He left the game in the third period and did not return.
One of several big off-season acquisitions for the Habs, Cammalleri has 26 goals and 22 assists in 56 games this season. The Richmond Hill, ON native is only one of five Canadiens to have played in every game this season.
The injury deals a serious blow to Montreal’s post-season hopes, as the Habs sit one point behind the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
