Canadiens claim goaltender Antti Niemi off waivers

Hockey Central at Noon discussion on Carey Price's injury update, and the news that the Montreal Canadiens have just claimed Antti Niemi off waivers.

The Montreal Canadiens have claimed goaltender Antti Niemi off waivers.

Niemi began this season with the Pittsburgh Penguins but was waived after three games. He was then claimed by the Florida Panthers only to be waived by that organization on Nov. 13. Between the two clubs the 34-year-old sports a 3-0 record with 6.74 goals-against average and an .822 save percentage in five appearances.

Injuries to Montreal goalies Carey Price and Al Montoya appears to have made the move to pick up Niemi, despite his struggles, necessary.
