Canadiens defenceman Alexei Emelin injured vs. Sabres

Florida Panthers forward Shawn Thornton had some choice words about Montreal Canadiens defenceman Alexie Emelin and his style of play, and there may have been some truth to what he said.

Montreal Canadiens defenceman Alexei Emelin left Wednesday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres and did not return, the team announced.

Emelin skated 14:36 before leaving the game, a 2-1 loss. It’s not clear what caused the injury.

The 30-year-old blue liner has two goals and 10 points on the season.

The Canadiens are currently without fellow defencemen Shea Weber (lower-body) and Jordie Benn (upper-body), who are both listed as day-to-day.
