Canadiens, Flames open busy weekend as betting underdogs

Cam Fowler scored what stood as the game winner in the second period and the Anaheim Ducks held off a late barrage by the Montreal Canadiens to edge them 2-1.

The Montreal Canadiens hope to rediscover their goal-scoring touch Friday night when they visit the San Jose Sharks as +130 underdogs at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

Montreal suffered a 2-1 loss in Anaheim as a +105 underdog on Tuesday, falling to 3-3-1 in its past seven games going into Friday night’s Canadiens vs. Sharks betting matchup at SAP Center. The Canadiens outshot the Ducks 40-38 and are winless in four straight when outshooting an opponent. Montreal, however, is 6-1-0 in its past seven when getting outshot.

The Sharks have shown signs of waking from an early-season slumber, posting wins in five of six to seize top spot in the Pacific Division with a 14-9-1 record.

San Jose has held opponents to one or fewer goals in four of its last six games, and has dominated the Canadiens, winning six of seven overall and nine straight on home ice, including shutout victories in two of their past three.

The Canadiens continue their five-game road trip on Sunday against the Los Angeles Kings, before wrapping things up in St. Louis on Tuesday.

Elsewhere on Friday, the Calgary Flames look to follow up on Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Toronto when they host the Minnesota Wild as slim +105 underdogs. The Flames topped the Leafs in their first game on home ice following a six-game road trip, and have won two of three at home since halting a three-game losing streak.

The Wild are winless in two, but have scored an impressive 16 goals over their past four games. Minnesota is also unbeaten in its past three trips to Calgary according to the OddsShark NHL Database.

Calgary entertains the Ducks on Saturday, before embarking on a brief two-game road trip next week.

Elsewhere, the Edmonton Oilers wrap up a hectic week with a pair of home games this weekend, with a visit from Anaheim on Saturday, followed by a Sunday date with Minnesota.

The Oilers are coming off a 6-3 win over Winnipeg as narrow -105 road underdogs on Thursday, ending a three-game slide, but are winless in five overall against the Ducks, and in six at home against Minnesota.

Winnipeg looks to end a six-game road losing streak in St. Louis on Saturday before visiting the Western Conference-leading Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday.

Toronto aims for a fourth straight win over the Canucks when they visit Vancouver on Saturday night, while the Ottawa Senators try to continue their climb up the Atlantic Division standings, gunning for just their third win in eight meetings with the visiting Florida Panthers.
