Canadiens defenceman Nathan Beaulieu was transported to a Montreal hospital on Tuesday night after appearing to take a puck to the throat against the Ottawa Senators.
Beaulieu was defending a zone entry by Senators forward Derick Brassard in the second period and when Brassard tried to shoot the puck, it appeared to come up and catch Beaulieu in the throat area.
The Canadiens announced shortly after that Beaulieu, 23, wouldn’t return to the game.
When asked about the injured defenceman Wednesday morning, head coach Michel Therrien said he left the hospital in the morning but will remain out while undergoing further tests.
Beaulieu will not dress Thursday against the Carolina Hurricanes, and is doubtful for Saturday’s matchup against the Detroit Red Wings.
