BROSSARD, Que.— The Montreal Canadiens have placed forward Alexander Semin on waivers.

Semin signed a one-year, $1.1 million contract with Montreal on July 24 after registering a career-low six goals and 13 assists in 57 games with the Carolina Hurricanes last season. The remaining three years and $21 million of his previous contract had been bought out by Carolina on July 1.

The 31-year-old Russian forward had recorded a goal and three assists in 15 games with Montreal. He was scratched from their lineup for a stretch of seven consecutive games between October 28 and November 14.

Semin suffered a lower-body injury on November 25 against the New York Rangers and returned to practice early last week. He had been removed from the injured reserve list before being subjected to waivers Monday.
