The Montreal Canadiens recalled defenceman David Schlemko from their AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket, on Saturday.

According to head coach Claude Julien, Schlemko will not play in Montreal’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night.

Schlemko was sent down to the Rocket on Friday for a conditioning stint after he suffered a hand injury during the first day of training camp.

The 30-year-old was acquired by the Canadiens in June in a trade with the Vegas Golden Knights.

In 360 career games, Schlemko has recorded 17 goals and 70 assists while playing for the Arizona Coyotes, Calgary Flames, New Jersey Devils and San Jose Sharks.

Tomas Plekanec missed Saturday’s morning skate due to flu-like symptoms and will be a game-time decision.
