A pair of injuries has lead to the promotions of goaltender Dustin Tokarski and right-winger Christian Thomas from the St. John’s IceCaps of the AHL to the Montreal Canadiens.
Carey Price will be out for at least a week after a nagging lower-body injury took the star goalie out of Wednesday’s game against the New York Rangers.
Alexander Semin left the same game with a lower-body injury of his own, and is out for a week. Bud Holloway, a 27-year-old rookie, is expected to make his NHL debut in Semin’s place.
Tokarski played 17 games for the Canadiens last year, and five playoff games for the team in 2014. In six games with the IceCaps, he is 2-2-1 with a .891 save percentage and a 3.45 goals-against average.
Thomas has played in 21 NHL games since being drafted by the New York Rangers 40th overall in 2010, scoring one goal. He’s tied for fourth on St John’s in scoring with 14 points in 18 games.
