Brossard, QUEBEC — The Montreal Canadiens announced Thursday that they signed 2015, first-round pick Noah Juulsen to a three-year, entry-level contract. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The six-foot-two native of Abbotsford, B.C., completed his second season in the Western Hockey League by leading all defencemen on the Everett Silvertips with 52 points (9 goals).
“It’s an amazing feeling [to be signed],” said Juulsen. “Everyone wants to get that opportunity, but not everyone does.”
Juulsen will make his way back to Abbotsford to begin training and to complete rehabilitation from a shoulder injury that kept him out of scrimmages at development camp. He assured reporters Thursday that his absence from the scrimmages was strictly precautionary, and that he’ll be prepared to participate in full at selection camp for the Canadian World Junior team two weeks from now.
“It’s a great opportunity,” Juulsen said regarding his invite to Canada’s selection camp. “There’s not many (players born in 1997) that got the invite to that. So I’m just going to go and do my best and see what happens.”
Juulsen is expected to be at Canadiens rookie camp, and is also likely to participate in their main training camp, both of which will be held in September. From there, he’ll return to Everett for a third season.
