Canadiens sign prospect Bennett to 2-year deal

MONTREAL – Defence prospect Mac Bennett has signed a two-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens.

The 23-year-old had two goals and 12 assists in 31 games for the University of Michigan Wolverines this season and was named to the All Big Ten second team.

In 136 career games at Michigan, the six foot 196 pound Bennett had 14 goals and 51 assists.

The Narragansett, R.I. native was selected in the third round of the 2009 NHL draft.
