The 23-year-old held his own in 44 games with the Canadiens last season, scoring seven goals and 10 assists, but was beat out by Daniel Carr and Artturi Lehkonen for a spot on Montreal’s opening-night roster.

There was some fear the Swiss forward would be claimed, but with 29 other teams choosing to pass, the Canadiens can hold on to their young asset.

Andrighetto had 10 goals and 13 assists in 26 games with the St. John’s IceCaps last season, and signed a one-year $650,000 contract this summer.
